A living room is a room in a domestic house or apartment for calming and socializing. Living rooms are at times referred to as front room especially when they are near the main entrance at the forward-facing part of the house. In many cases especially for big houses, a sitting room is a small room which is near a bedroom. However, for homes that lack a drawing room, a sitting room can function as a reception room. A living room contained furniture such as sofa, chairs, tables such as coffee tables, bookshelves, electric lamps, and other furniture. Traditionally, most sitting rooms had a fireplace. A fireplace serves as a heating place. The Living room had a floor which was covered with mats where people could sit on it during various occasions. For quite some time, the parlor of a living room, was used for accommodating people during social events. Furthermore, the room also served as a place where the lately dead people were placed before their funeral. The following is a list of furniture types found in a living room. They include items such as tables, chairs, beds, desks, dressers, or cupboards. The listed furniture which is kept in the lounge room mainly serve the purpose of making people in the room feel relaxed and comfortable.
A chair specifically is, made up of raised flat or curved surface supported by legs, commonly used to seat a single person. Chairs are mainly supported by four legs and have a back. Chairs can also be made of three legs and also have different look and shapes. Chairs are built of various constituents, varying from wood to metal and to synthetic material such as plastic. Seats can be used in places like different rooms of homes, in schools and offices and also in various other workplaces. A chair that lacks a back or arms rests is referred to as a stool, and when raised up, is a bar stool. A couch is a section of furniture that can seat three or more people, with or without armrests, which are partly or completely furnished, and are at times tailored with springs and hand made cushions.
Though a couch is used principally for seating, it can also be used for sleeping. In most homes, couches are habitually found in the family room, living room, and the lounge. At times couches are found in non-residential settings such as hotels, lobbies of commercial offices, waiting rooms, and bars. A chaise lounge is a furnished sofa that has a shape of a chair and is long enough to support the legs. Adventurously, chaise lounge have been associated with psychoanalysis and countless psychoanalysts keep on using the chaises lounge s in their offices for use in psychotherapy. In present French the chaise lounge can mean any long reclining chair such as a deckchair.
